About A Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body (Νους υγιής εν σώματι υγιή)

In this talk Swami Sivamurti Saraswati will analyze the close relationship between the mind and body and provide us with the yogic tools to develop a healthy body and healthy mind. Ancient Greeks could be considered to be yogis, as they believed that positive and virtuous thinking brought about a healthy state of mind and a healthy state of mind lead to a healthy body and a sense of well-being. For this reason, we shall learn how to approach our mind through the techniques of Raja Yoga, the science of mind management. The goal of Raja Yoga is to enable one to manage the senses and control the modifications of the mind. It is often referred to as the Yoga of Meditation. After having worked with the body with Hatha Yoga, the next step is to learn how to manage the mind through Raja Yoga.
In order to manage the mind, one needs to learn how to witness the mind and to expand one’s awareness.
Awareness is the ability to stand back and observe both the physical and mental activities. With awareness, one can observe one’s actions and reactions, both internally and externally, and in the course of time choose more appropriate ways of thinking, acting and behaving.
Yogic tools like Yamas and Niyamas as well as Pratipaksha Bhavana and Antar Mouna will be introduced.
